As a commuter town, the majority of Coquitlam residents commute to work in Vancouver, Burnaby, and other Metro Vancouver suburbs. Coquitlam's main industrial area lies in the southern Maillardville/Fraser Mills area near the Fraser River. Among the largest employers within Coquitlam are the City of Coquitlam, Art in Motion, Boulevard Casino, Coca-Cola, Sony and the Marine Propulsion division of Rolls-Royce. Retail businesses provided 27% of the remaining jobs.
Getting Around in Coquitlam
City of Coquitlam works in cooperation with Translink to provide efficient transit services throughout the community.
There is regular bus service running throughout the city and connects it to other municipalities in Metro Vancouver with a major exchange at Coquitlam Central Station. There is a 97-B express bus service connecting the central part of the city to the Lougheed Town Centre SkyTrain station in neighbouring Burnaby.
The West Coast Express, Vancouver's efficient commuter rail service passes through Coquitlam with a station at Coquitlam Central. Coquitlam Central is located at the junction of the Barnet and Lougheed Highway, with a pedestrian tunnel connecting the parking area to the station platform.
Coquitlam is close to three airports: Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Pitt Meadows Airport serving smaller aircraft.
